Triumph Motorcycles, the largest British motorcycle manufacturer will try to break the motorcycle land speed record in August 2015 at Bonneville Salt Flats with Guy Martin as their rider, who has primarily competed in road racing events such as the Isle of Man TT. The famous road racer and television star has attempted various other speed records as part of his TV show 'Speed with Guy Martin', and this time he will aim to bring the motorcycle land speed record back to Britain after its absence for 45 years.
Triumph has a long legacy of breaking the land speed record and held the title of "World's Fastest Motorcycle" from 1955 to 1970. The record-breaking Triumph streamliners of that period were Devil's Arrow, Texas Cee-gar, Dudek Streamliner and Gyronaut X1, achieving a top speed of 245.667 mph (395.28 km/h).
The current record stands at 376.363mph (605.697Km/h) which was set by Rocky Robinson in 2010 on a Top Oil-Ack Attack streamliner, and this will be the speed to beat for well-known motorcycle rider and television personality Guy Martin who will ride a purpose-built Triumph Rocket streamliner at the salt flats of Bonneville, attempting 400mph goal to set a new land-speed record.
The 2015 Triumph Rocket Streamliner features a carbon Kevlar monocoque construction with two turbocharged Triumph Rocket III engines producing a combined 1,000 bhp at 9,000 rpm. The motorcycle is 25 feet long, 2 feet wide and 3 feet tall. Powered by methanol fuel, the bike is competing in the Division C (streamlined motorcycle) category.
